On February 22, Friday Night Folk at All Souls will host the 6th annual Pete Seeger Tribute concert, this year benefiting the CT Immigrant Bail Fund. People held in immigration detention jail can often be released as they await trial - but only if they can afford to pay bond. People who cannot afford bond remain in jail due to their poverty alone. It is extremely difficult for them to find legal representation from behind bars. While detained, many lose their jobs, housing, and custody of their children - in addition to enduring the hardship of incarceration. https://www.immigrantbailfund.org/about/
A great lineup of musicians are donating their time and talent for this concert! Sally Rogers, Jess Mancuso and the String Theory Quartet, Miss Connduct from Connecticut College, Geoff Kaufman, Clayton Allen & Hugh Birdsall, The Carolans, Ada Mae and friends, Karen Ethier Waring & Nick Evento, Tonya Laymon, Steve Dedman of Plywood Cowboy, Caleb Haylon, and Carlos Carion. The performers will share Pete’s songs, songs he loved, and songs about him. Geoff Kaufman, who spent time with Pete over many years aboard the Hudson River sloop Clearwater, will emcee the evening as well as perform.
Pete Seeger was a fearless warrior for social justice and the environment. “For nearly 70 years as a performer, Pete embodied the ideals of folk music – communication, entertainment, social comment, historical continuity, inclusiveness. The songs he wrote, and those he discovered and shared, have helped preserve our cultural heritage, imprinting adults and children with the sounds, traditions and values of our global past and present. A fearless warrior for social justice and the environment, Pete’s political activism... has become the template for subsequent generations of musicians and ordinary citizens with something to say about the world.” PeteSeegerMusic.com
